NASA Cine Space Short Film Competition 2021 [Prizes of Rs. 19L]: Submit by 14th July

Submissions are invited for NASA CineSpace Short Film Competition 2021. The final date of application submission is 14 July 2021.

Submit a brief movie inspired by, and using, actual footage from NASA’s digital archives for an opportunity to earn cash prizes, have your movie screened by renowned director Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Dazed and Confused), and get programmed into the Houston Cinema Arts Festival this November.

About NASA CineSpace Short Film Competition 2021

The competitors give creators worldwide an opportunity to share their films impressed by and using NASA imagery, enabling curiosity and fostering creative relationships on the intersection of artwork and science. Submissions that include real NASA footage from 60 years of space exploration will be judged on creativity, innovation, and a focus on detail.

As in earlier years, filmmakers will compete for $26,000 in cash prizes, with awards going to the highest three overall winners and winners of two special categories: Best Educational Film on Space and Science and Film That Best Depicts Unity and Inclusion in Science.

Eligibility

Filmmakers of all expertise levels from worldwide are welcome to submit their films for consideration. The competitors are inclusive of all genres, together with narrative, documentary, comedy, drama, animation, experimental, and others.

Films shall be submitted to the content creation platform Tongal. Film entries have to be no more than 10 minutes and comprise a minimum of 10 % of publicly available NASA imagery. Finalists are chosen from the submissions and reviewed by Academy Award ® nominee Richard Linklater who awards the first, second, and third place prizes.

The Screenings and Competition (hereafter “Competition”) are obtainable and open only to natural individuals who’re a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of entry. Parents and guardians of filmmakers younger than 18 can submit on their behalf.

The following individuals aren’t eligible to win prizes: employees of NASA, Houston Cinema Arts Society (hereafter “HCAS”) and their Board, employees of distributors to NASA or HCAS that have contracted to supply services to or about the Competition, members of the Selection Committee, the Competition judges, and members of the households of the foregoing individuals (collectively, the “Competition Parties”).

Submission

• The competitors are inclusive of all genres, together with narrative, documentary, comedy, drama, animation, experimental, and others. Films shall be submitted to the content material creation platform Tongal.
• There isn’t any entry charge to submit to CineSpace. You might submit up to 5 short films.

Judging Criteria

The Jury will think about the next criteria to pick Finalists and Award Winners:

• Is the work primarily based on innovative artistic presentation and storytelling?
• Does the work provoke an emotional response?
• Does the work show a mastery of filmmaking?
• Does the work show an excessive level of technical, conceptual, and aesthetic innovation and show a distinctive artistic vision?
• Does the work show an exemplary use of the original NASA material used?
• Extra credit score for using uncommon or obscure NASA imagery that hasn’t been used before.

The Selection Committee and Competition Judges (collectively the “Jury”) will award the following prizes:

• Grand Prize: USD $10,000
• Second Prize: USD $5,000
• Third Prize: USD $3,000
• Special Categories: Educational Film That Best Highlights Impacts of Space and Science: USD 4,000 & Film That Best Depicts Unity and Inclusion in Science: USD 4,000
